Program Admission RequirementsĪdmissions requirements are subject to change by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Undergraduate students may take the EDSS 300 course once they have completed a minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter units. Application to the program is made as part of the course requirements for EDSS 300. Admission to the university does not constitute admission to the SSCP. Apply for admission if you are A) a graduating senior at CSULB, B) transferring from another institution, or C) returning to the university after an absence of one or more semesters. For more information on fieldwork requirements, and for a list of sites in which CSULB has an Affiliation Agreement with, visit the Office of Clinical Practice website at Admission to the Programīefore beginning the Single Subject Credential Program, students should be admitted to the university. All fieldwork must be completed in a school in which CSULB has a current Affiliation Agreement on file. ![]() Prior to beginning fieldwork, all students must have character clearance (Certificate of Clearance or 30-Day Sub Permit) from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing and a valid TB Test. To achieve the required number of hours, students will be required to complete fieldwork hours in public school classrooms for each of their program courses. The Commission on Teacher Credentialing requires that students complete 600 hours of clinical practice fieldwork over the scope of their credential program including student teaching. Subject matter competency can be completed either through degree, completion of a CTC accredited subject matter preparation program, the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET), evaluation of coursework aligned to the CTC subject matter domains, or through a combination of coursework and CSET subtests. In addition to professional preparation, all credential candidates must demonstrate subject matter competence.
